Overview
Project Impact
Designed and implemented an intelligent visitor management system that transformed corporate reception areas by creating personalised, multilingual welcome experiences. The system successfully reduced reception bottlenecks whilst enhancing security and visitor experience.
The Challenge
Traditional visitor management systems face several limitations:
Impersonal guest experiences
Language barriers with international visitors
Reception desk bottlenecks
Delayed visitor processing
Security compliance concerns
Innovative Solution
Working as the lead designer, I created a smart welcome screen that:
Recognised registered visitors in real-time
Displayed personalised greetings in preferred languages
Monitored multiple visitors simultaneously
Flagged unauthorised access attempts
Integrated seamlessly with existing security systems
My Role
I contributed across multiple dimensions of the project:
Conceptualisation
Visual Design
Information Architecture
Prototyping on a large HD display (55–60").
Additionally, I worked closely with a junior UX developer to build the Angular app and ensure its seamless integration with the backend system.
Design & Development Process
1. Rapid Conceptualisation (5-Hour Sprint)
Conducted rapid idealisation sessions
Created initial wireframes and user flows
Defined core functionality requirements
Established visual design principles
2. User Interface States Designed distinct screen states for various scenarios:
Idle State: Engaging default screen with branded content
Single Visitor: Full-screen personalised welcome
Multi-Visitor: Dynamic grid layout for up to 4 simultaneous visitors
Alert State: Security notifications for unauthorised access
Smart Welcome Screen: AI-Powered Visitor Recognition System
Key Challenges & Solutions
1. Performance Optimisation
Challenge: Initial delay in visitor recognition
Solution:
Collaborated with the backend team to optimise API calls
Implemented efficient data filtering
Outcome: Reduced response time to under 1 second
2. Multi-Visitor Management
Challenge: Handling multiple simultaneous visitors
Solution:
Designed a dynamic grid layout system
Implemented priority queue for visitor display
Outcome: Successfully design for up to 4 concurrent visitors
3. Global Accessibility
Challenge: Supporting international visitors
Solution:
Implemented multilingual support
Created culturally adaptive greetings
Outcome: The system supported several languages commonly used in Singapore
